Day One- Woman's Right to Quality Jobs at Equal Pay
My first mid-day workshop was sponsored by Women International Democratic Federation addressing the issue of equal pay for woman around the world. Today women struggle against unemployment, poverty, exploitation, physical violence, human trafficking and awful working conditions. The group is working to give woman around the world access to work- a good job with social structures and with rights to equal pay.
The situation of each woman varies based on her status in society that she lives in. Women in Africa have a lack of access to information regarding health, hygiene, extreme poverty and danger to her well being. Women in developed countries are living with insecurity, low paying jobs, poverty, exploitation and discrimination.
The group is calling for trade unions, women groups, fired and unemployed to develop a network of international labor solidarity and use more radical methods against the neo liberal and anti labor policies of international organizations like the IMF, World Bank, World Trade Organization and so on. The policies of these organizations have led to 2.8 billion people living below the poverty line and 70% of them are women.
